Season Three Announcement
Gold Leaf Theatre is proud to announce the Season Three line up!!
Beau Jest by James Sherman Sarah is a nice Jewish girl with a problem: her parents want her married to a nice Jewish boy. They have never met her boyfriend, a WASP executive named Chris Kringle. She tells them she is dating a Jewish doctor and they insist on meeting him. She plans a dinner party and, over the heated protests of Chris, employs an escort service to send her a Jewish date to be Dr. Steinberg. Instead, they send Bob Schroeder, an aspiring actor who agrees to perform the impersonation. Happily, he is extremely convincing in the role and Sarah's parents are enraptured. Soon, even Sarah falls for Bob (Special thanks to Samuel French). Performances: February 24, 25, 26 and March 2, 3, 4 2012. Tickets will go on sale starting in February.
Alice in Wonderland (Youth Show Ages 4-18) Follow that rabbit to a delightful, entertaining world of childhood fantasies. Alice journeys into a world of talking animals, comic royalty and races where the contestants run in circles! There are also the Mad Hatter's frantic tea party, the watch-carrying White Rabbit and talking flowers. Along the way Alice must deal with a sneezing duchess and a baby that turns into a pig! The finale has Alice watching a trial, but she suddenly finds herself the accused! The play gives a modern view to an old classic, where nonsense makes quite good sense. (Special thanks to Pioneer Drama). This workshop will start on in April 2012 and will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Performances: Will be in June 2012. Tickets will go on sale in late May. Cost of the workshop is $175. Sign ups for this workshop will be start in March.
Spider Island by Joseph Spalding In an abandoned lighthouse off the New England coast live Abbie and Salem Mayo, two spinsters. Abbie is slightly pixilated and believes her dead brother is living in the lighthouse tower. Salem encourages her delusions. To this queer household comes Star Mayo and her friend, Pat Casey. They do not know of the two aunts, and the girls are soon plunged into a series of hair raising events. What was the Thing in the Tower? Why was Abbie afraid of the axe? Of what had Salem lived in fear for forty years? Six women---and an axe---have the power to chill the blood and raise hackles on the neck of the strongest man. (Special thanks to Samuel French). Auditions in March TBD, Performances in May TBD.
The Mysterious Case of the Missing Ring (Youth show Ages 4-19) The royal ring is missing, and the queen won’t sleep until the royal detectives (all 13 of them!) find it. You’ve never met a more eclectic and eccentric group all in one play — including Maximum Smarts and Agent 98 with their Umbrella of Silence; Wiley Jones and his bumbling assistant, Oliver; Ms. Scarlet (who carries a candlestick and lead pipe in her purse but is ironically “clue”-less!); Bob the Southern Sheriff with his invisible dog; Inspector Change with a proverb for every occasion; the Professor (who’s always right, of course); Nancy and Jamie (clever girl detectives); Kat, who’s afraid of germs and even her own shadow; two tedious note-taking detectives; and Gypsy Rose the Fortune Teller. As they scour the Queendom in search of the royal ring, the chatty maids follow the harried queen around while the devious butler spouts suspiciously evil laughs every time a clue goes awry. In this fast-paced, madcap mystery, you’ll find delightful comedy for all ages in every quirky character... and a surprise ending that rings true! (Special thanks to Pioneer Drama). Summer 2012
